For those interested, here are some details regarding this website and its recent history.
Following the passing of Pinchas Bar Zeev, the original contributor to this catalog, in 2016, the site remained accessible online but was no longer updated.
Around June or July of 2022, the website went offline, most likely due to unpaid hosting fees. Shortly thereafter, a mirror version of the site was launched on different domian by an unknown enthusiast. That mirror remained active until recent months and is currently offline.
In December 2025, the domain sheqel.info completed all registrar deletion phases and became publicly available.
This website was revived by a small group of numismatists and collectors from South Israel.
Our intention is to preserve this site as a tribute to Pinchas Bar Zeev and his important numismatic research. During his lifetime, and later, especially around years 2012-2022, this catalog served as a key reference for anyone studying Israeli coins and banknotes. Much of the information it contains was - and still is - unavailable elsewhere.
However, it would be irresponsible to leave the site exactly as it was in 2016. For example, outdated price estimates could mislead or harm new collectors. New coins and banknotes were (and will be) released, it makes sense to add them here.
We are committed to preserving the original content, while also updating the catalog where necessary. Any new or modified information will be clearly marked.
We warmly invite anyone with a passion for Israeli numismatics to reach out with suggestions, ideas, or contributions. Instead of keeping a frozen copy, it would be the right thing to do to further develop this resource. We would especially appreciate new content for the catalog: recent mintages numbers, new missing items and their photos, numismatic research articles.
